YouTuber Dies After Eating Raw Oysters… What is Vibrio Bacteria?

American YouTuber Billy LeBlanc announced the death of his partner, Natalie Clark, due to an infection contracted after eating raw oysters.

LeBlanc wrote on Instagram: “I’m sure none of you know, but I almost died recently. I was in the hospital for 12 days. Unfortunately, Natalie didn’t survive and passed away.”

He added, “I will always remember how we got lost together everywhere. I will always love and miss her… Stay safe and hold your loved ones tightly, for you never know when it will be the last time you see them.”

According to “People” magazine, Natalie and Clark were infected by the Vibrio vulnificus bacteria that was transmitted to them after eating raw oysters.

What is Vibrio Bacteria?

Many types of Vibrio bacteria are transmitted through food, especially partially raw or fully raw seafood; they cause diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, fever, and chills.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Vibrio bacteria can cause a potentially serious illness called vibriosis.

Health experts say that about one in five people infected with this bacteria die, “sometimes within a day or two of becoming ill, while others need intensive care or limb amputations.”
