The Muslim Brotherhood Continues to Block Roads and Impose Levies and Fees on Yemenis

Leaders of the Al-Islah Party, “the Muslim Brotherhood‘s arm in Yemen,” continue to impose levies and fees on citizens by blocking roads and establishing checkpoints managed by party-affiliated militias.

Truck drivers transporting vegetables from Al-Huban toward the city of Taiz have complained about the financial levy imposed at the Al-Qasr checkpoint, which benefits military leaders in the area affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood.

In a press statement relayed by the (Yemen Press) website, they indicated that a 100,000 riyal fee was imposed on each truck or vehicle loaded with vegetables. Those who refuse to pay are not allowed to pass through the checkpoint. The Houthi militias implement similar procedures at their checkpoints by imposing levies.

The truck owners have appealed to the Presidential Council and local authorities to intervene and stop the illegal fees, which contribute to rising prices of vegetables and goods, ultimately costing the citizens more.

It should be noted that the Taiz sector forces, under the control of the Muslim Brotherhood, imposed new levies on domestic gas about two months ago.

Documents and information published by the (Al-Omanaa Net) newspaper reveal that checkpoints affiliated with the sector and Brotherhood commander Abu Bakr Al-Jubouli on the road linking Tur Al-Baha and Hayja Al-Abd detained dozens of trucks carrying domestic gas to impose levies on them.

According to sources, the military sector checkpoints and Al-Jubouli demanded truck drivers pay 500 riyals per gas cylinder, while gas trailer drivers were asked to pay 200,000 riyals, which the drivers refused.

The sources noted that the Muslim Brotherhood forces claim to impose these levies for the benefit of the wounded, the poor, the needy, and those affected by the wars.
