Administration of Biden seeks to sale $23 bln weapon to UAE
Congressional aides said on Tuesday that US President Joe Biden’s administration informed Congress that it’s scheduled for more than $23 billion in weapons deals to the United Arab Emirates, as advanced F-35 aircraft, armed drones and other equipment.
Indeed, a State Department spokesperson stated that the administration would advance in the proposed trades to the UAE, even as we continue reviewing details and consulting with Emirati officials linked to the use of the weapons.
Otherwise, the Democratic president’s administration had stopped the contracts agreed to by former Republican President Donald Trump for reviewing them later.
US sale and normalize relations with Israel by UAE
In November, the Trump administration informed Congress that it had agreed the US sale to the UAE, after a US-brokered deal in September while the UAE accepted to normalize ties with Israel.
The $23.37 billion lot included products from General Atomics, Lockheed Martin Corp and Raytheon Technologies Corp, including 50 F-35 Lighting II aircraft, and about 18 MQ-9B Unmanned Aerial Systems and a lot of air-to-air and air-to-ground munitions. Whereas, in December, a legislative effort to cease the sales was failed while Trump’s fellow Republicans in Congress supported his plans.
