A demonstration in Tunisia demands cleansing institutions from the Brotherhood
Dozens of Tunisian civil society activists held a protest yesterday in front of the Municipal Theater in the capital, Tunis, in support of the measures taken by the Tunisian government under the directive of President Kais Saied to cleanse state institutions from the Muslim Brotherhood.
During the demonstration, titled “Support for Cleansing Institutions from the Brotherhood,” the protesters expressed their support for Tunisian Minister of Justice Leila Jaffel in her efforts to rid the country of corrupt individuals and terrorists, despite the vehement campaign launched by the Muslim Brotherhood through social media platforms.
Kais Saied recently called for speeding up the purification of Tunisian government agencies “from anyone who works to hinder any public facility,” pointing out that “this phenomenon has worsened in recent weeks, and institutions must be cleansed of it as soon as possible.”
Tunisia is moving towards issuing a presidential decree regarding the review of appointments in Tunisian government institutions, as a new step towards reform and purging the state of elements of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood.
The civil society activist and coordinator of the protest, Mohamed Ali Razqi, demanded the application of the law and an audit of appointments made since 2011 in government positions, especially in the judiciary.
He affirmed that judges “must be honorable and not affiliated with a specific party,” expressing his support for Kais Saied’s path in continuing the purification of the country. He called for the infusion of new blood into the judiciary to achieve justice, fairness, and equality.
He also reiterated his support for Kais Saied and Justice Minister Leila Jaffal in the fight against corruption, calling for the “necessity of holding monopolists and manipulators of the people’s resources accountable,” placing responsibility for the situation in Tunisia on the judiciary.
