A “fake” shark fin terrorizes students on a school trip
Students from a school in Britain were horrified during a sea excursion on the shores of Devon when they spotted what appeared to be a large white shark fin in the water.
Ron Hughes, the ship’s sailor, suspected something when he noticed that the floating object was not moving.
His suspicions were confirmed when he pulled the fin out of the water and found it connected to a wooden frame.
The fin was carved out of solid insulating foam material, painted dark gray, and then attached to the frame, placed about 300 meters from the shore.
Hughes wrote on his Facebook page, “They couldn’t fool me for long. Such pranks can have a very real impact on summer coastal activities, not to mention that they are essentially marine debris.”
