A storm drowns the state of Florida in the United States with rain
The state of Florida in the United States canceled boat parades and other holiday celebrations on Sunday after a storm dropped 12.7 cm of rain across the state, flooding streets before heading toward the east coast.
The National Weather Service issued multiple flood warnings and the possibility of minor flooding in a wide area of the state, stretching from the southwest Gulf Coast to Jacksonville.
However, major airports remained open at the start of the busy holiday travel season.
Carmine Marceno, the sheriff of Lee County, said on the former “X” platform, formerly known as Twitter, “Today is not suitable for swimming or boating.”
Coastal warnings were issued in most parts of the state as strong winds moved water in the Gulf and along the northern Atlantic coast.
Nevertheless, the storm may be a welcome sign for those residents in southwest Florida facing water restrictions and drought conditions as the typical dry season approaches.
