Abdullah bin Zayed Discusses the United Nations Meeting Schedule with Foreign Ministers in New York


Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, discussed the agenda of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly with several of his counterparts, foreign ministers, in separate meetings.

Meetings on the Sidelines of the UN

On the sidelines of the United Nations meetings in New York, the Emirati minister met with Michael Martin, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ireland, and Bakhtiyor Saidov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.

Various Agenda items

During these meetings, various issues on the agenda of the United Nations General Assembly were discussed. Additionally, discussions centered on bilateral cooperation in several areas, including economics, trade, investment, culture, education, agriculture, technology, food security, renewable energy, and more.

Climate Matter

Discussions also touched upon the climate issue and the importance of using this international platform to mobilize international efforts in response to the impacts of climate change, especially with the Climate Ambition Summit taking place alongside the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

COP28 in Dubai

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan briefed the foreign ministers he met on the UAE’s preparations to host the 28th Conference of the Parties COP28 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in November and December at Expo Dubai.

He emphasized that the world is looking forward to COP28 with boundless ambition, great hope, and a shared determination to achieve tangible impact and a qualitative shift in global climate action. The United Arab Emirates looks forward, during its hosting of this prominent international event, to solidifying an international approach to sustainable cooperation, leading to a groundbreaking advancement in the climate issue on all fronts.

Strengthening International Partnerships

He underscored the UAE’s commitment to building constructive and positive international partnerships based on inclusivity and multilateralism, leading to sustainable economic growth and comprehensive development in societies.

Discussion on bilateral relations

On the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Emirati minister also met Santiago Andrés Cafiero, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Argentina. The two ministers discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance them to serve the common interests of both nations.

Cybersecurity Agreement

Following this meeting, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Santiago Andrés Cafiero signed a memorandum of understanding on cybersecurity cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and Argentina.

Discussion of common interests

In a related context, during his meeting with Barbara Leaf, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, the Emirati minister discussed several issues of common interest and exchanged viewpoints on them.
