After ’’long delays’’, Taliban begin issuing passports
Afghanistan will begin issuing passports again on Tuesday, a senior Taliban official said, after months of delays that hampered attempts to leave the country after the group seized control.
The official added that the issuance of passports, which had slowed down even before the Taliban returned to power following the withdrawal of US forces, would be done through documents that fully match the previous government’s paperwork for the applicants.
“Acting Head of Passport Bureau Alam Gul Haqqani told reporters in Kabul that 5,000 to 6,000 passports will be issued daily.”
The Afghan official noted the hiring of women to issue passports to Afghan women who wish to.
The 25,000 applicants have reached the final stage of paying fees to receive the passports, Qari saeed khosty, spokesman for the Taliban Interior Ministry, told reporters.
The source added that the applications of 100,000 applicants are still in the early stages of the process.
