Algiers Arab Summit – Preparations Completed

Algeria has completed the final preparations to host the Arab Summit early next month, and all state bodies have been recruited to host the event. According to local media, Algeria hopes the upcoming summit, which will be held on November 1st and 2nd, will advance Arab action, especially in light of current global challenges.

Despite the political tensions between Algeria and Morocco, Rabat confirmed its participation in the Algiers Summit, but it has not yet determined the level of representation. A number of guests will participate, notably Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, Moussa Faki, President of the African Union, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, President of the Non-Aligned Movement, and Adel bin Abdulrahman Al-Assoumi, President of the Arab Parliament.

According to informed Algerian sources, the authorities concerned have completed all the preparations for hosting the summit, which will be held at the Palais des Conferences in the area of the Pine Club in the west of the capital, on the condition that the official delegations will stay in their designated villas within the “Establishment of the State”, a residential complex for senior Algerian officials that enjoys intensive security and is about 100 meters away from the Palais des Conferences, in addition to the allocation of the “Sheraton” Hotel within the “Establishment of the State” for the escorts. According to statistics from the Algerian Ministry of Communication (Information), journalists from 24 countries were accredited to cover the summit’s events, with two hotels allocated for their stay. They will be transported to the summit headquarters by special buses.

The Algerian authorities called on the media to keep up with the Arab Summit while respecting the rules and standards of the media and the ethics of the press profession, to guarantee freedom of communication and expression and the right to the media.

The Algiers Summit will be the first fully digital summit, where paper will be completely removed during all sessions, with the provision of high-speed Internet for all attendees. Preparatory meetings for the summit are scheduled to begin next week in Algiers at the level of permanent delegates, followed by a meeting of Arab foreign ministers, immediately prior to the summit, to agree on the draft final statement. The upcoming summit will discuss several issues, most notably the Palestinian issue, Arab food security and energy, and the repercussions of Ukraine’s war on Arab countries in all fields.

The Algiers authorities decided to close some roads during the summit to facilitate the security and movement of official delegations, most notably the airport road and the road leading to the conference palace. Last week, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the Arab League, visited Algeria where he held consultations with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra on Algeria’s latest preparations to host the summit. In statements on the sidelines of his visit, Aboul Gheit said that the next summit will see the formation of a consultation group among Arab leaders directly, on various issues, without the involvement of their assistants, which will be beneficial to the reunion.

He explained that the priority issues to be raised at the summit will be saving Arab countries that are exposed to interference, settling the situation in the Arab region and finding solutions.
