“An Emirati Prescription” to Establish Security and End Human Suffering in Gaza

In parallel with an ongoing humanitarian and relief role, the efforts of the United Arab Emirates are accelerating to examine plans and proposals to end the war in Gaza, alleviate the suffering of Palestinians in the region, impose security, and commence reconstruction.

Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, stated that the UAE believes that establishing security, stability, and peace in the region stems from a sustainable and fair solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and a political process leading to the realization of the two-state solution and the creation of an independent Palestinian state living in peace and security with the State of Israel, in accordance with bilateral agreements and international law, while enhancing the humanitarian response to the current tragic situation in the Gaza Strip, according to the Emirati News Agency.

She added that the UAE, within the framework of its historical commitment to the brotherly Palestinian people and under the guidance of its wise leadership, continues to provide urgent humanitarian aid and supplies to the region, sparing no effort in extending a helping hand to the Palestinian brothers and offering initiatives to aid them by land, sea, or air, noting that the state has transferred 38,180 tons of urgent supplies to the region over the past ten months via 8 ships, 1,243 trucks, and 334 flights, including 50 air drops.

She continued that the UAE will persist in working diligently and playing a leading role with the United Nations and international partners to double the efforts needed to support the initiatives aimed at alleviating human suffering.

Al Hashemi stressed that the UAE sees that returning to the tragic situation that prevailed before October 7, 2023, cannot achieve what Palestinians, Israelis, and everyone aspire to, which is sustainable peace, and that the UAE sees that establishing stability and security in the Palestinian territories and the entire region begins with an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all prisoners and hostages.

An Emirati Prescription for the Solution

According to Al Hashemi, establishing security and stability and ending human suffering should start with the creation of an international temporary mission at the official invitation of the Palestinian government, led by a new highly competent, credible, and independent Prime Minister, working transparently according to the highest international standards, ready to deal with the necessary reforms to address the challenges facing the Palestinian people and achieve their legitimate aspirations for independence, state-building, development, and stability, capable of assuming responsibility for rebuilding Gaza, and tasked with effectively responding to the crisis suffered by the residents of the region, in addition to working to establish law and order, and laying the foundations for a qualified government that paves the way for the unification of the West Bank and Gaza under one legitimate Palestinian authority.

In this context, she stressed the necessity for Israel, as the occupying power, to play its role in achieving this international vision according to international law and human rights standards, as it is impossible to rebuild Gaza if it continues to live under blockade, and if the Palestinian Authority is not allowed to assume its responsibilities, and to stop withholding its funding, in addition to the need to stop settlement building and violence in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

She also indicated that the UAE believes in the importance of the cooperation of regional and international partners and coordinated collective work to forge a future of peace and prosperity for Israelis and Palestinians and for all the peoples of the region.

In this framework, Al Hashemi emphasized the importance of the pivotal and active role of the United States in these efforts, both in the phase of Gaza’s recovery and in efforts to revive the prospects for peace, this role being indispensable alongside what the countries of the region are doing. The firm and clear American commitment to achieving the two-state solution and supporting Palestinian reforms is one of the cornerstones of the success of the international mission.

She concluded by saying that the UAE will continue to intensively support the brotherly Palestinian people on a humanitarian level and is ready to play its role as part of a sustainable effort to resolve the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution in partnership with the relevant regional and international parties, as such an effort must be comprehensive, because peace is primarily in the interest of all of us, in the Middle East and the world.
