As the election date approaches… Muslim Brotherhood in Tunisia intensifies efforts to disrupt

Ahead of the scheduled presidential elections this fall, Tunisian President Kais Saied revealed attempts by the Muslim Brotherhood to inflame tensions. During his meeting with Interior Minister Khalid al-Nouri and State Secretary for National Security Sufian Belsadik, he called for “doubling efforts to enforce the law.”

He explained that this was necessary “especially at a time when blatant attempts are being made to stir up social tensions in various ways,” referring to the Muslim Brotherhood in Tunisia, and asserting that “lobbies are participating behind the scenes in the electoral process in recent days.”

In a related context, Saied emphasized the need to enhance security in the cities of Jebnaiana and El Amra, in particular, explaining that “Tunisia treats irregular migrants based primarily on humanitarian values, but cannot allow anyone to intimidate citizens under any pretext.”

Recently, the Muslim Brotherhood, represented by the Ennahdha movement and its allies, has sought to question the fairness of the elections, claiming lack of freedom and supporting an independent candidate, hoping to return to the political scene after being rejected by the Tunisian street.

Political observers of the Tunisian scene argue that the Muslim Brotherhood is seeking to inflame tensions and spread rumors to undermine the electoral process, after realizing that the people have rejected them and it is impossible to regain their trust.
