Death of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard spokesperson.
Iran announced on Friday the killing of Ali Mohammad Naeini, spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in a U.S.-Israeli attack.
In a statement, the Revolutionary Guard mourned Naeini, noting that his career spanned more than four decades, while vowing to avenge his death.
Subsequently, the Israeli military stated in a communiqué: “The Air Force, acting on intelligence provided by military intelligence, conducted a strike overnight and eliminated Ali Mohammad Naeini, spokesperson and head of the propaganda apparatus of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.”
It added that “the elimination of Naeini is part of a series of targeted operations that have struck dozens of senior regime officials who have been eliminated during the course of the operation.”
The war in Iran has been marked by an unprecedented campaign of assassinations, which began with Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. As part of efforts targeting the regime’s structures, Israel killed Intelligence Minister Ismail Khatib on Wednesday, a day after the death of Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
According to CNN, “through this escalation, Israel is sending a message of military strength and demonstrating that its adversaries have no safe haven. It also reflects the expanding scope of the conflict, enabled by new precision weaponry and remarkable intelligence penetration. At the same time, the recent strikes represent an attempt to reshape the political landscape in Tehran.”
