Death Toll Rises in Gaza and Tunnel Discovered Under Philadelphi Corridor

The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced on Sunday that the death toll from the Israeli war on Gaza, which has been ongoing for about 10 months, has reached at least 39,583. Meanwhile, the Israeli army announced the discovery of a tunnel in the Philadelphi Corridor near the border with Egypt.

In detail, the Gaza Ministry of Health said in a statement that it had counted among those transported to hospitals “33 martyrs… in the past twenty-four hours” until Sunday morning.

It added that the Israeli army forces committed two massacres in Gaza during which 33 people were killed and 118 others injured.

It noted that the total number of injuries since the ongoing war over 303 days “has reached 91,398 injuries since October 7.”

On Sunday, health officials in the Gaza Strip said an Israeli airstrike hit a tent inside a hospital complex in the center of the strip, killing at least 5 people, bringing the total number of Palestinians killed on Sunday to 19.

Medical sources reported that the airstrike targeted a tent area in the Martyrs of Al-Aqsa Hospital complex, causing a fire and injuring at least 18 people in addition to the five dead.

The hospital complex is located in the Deir al-Balah area, which is crowded with thousands of displaced people fleeing fighting in other parts of the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army said in a statement today that forces from the 162nd Division and the “Yahalom” unit had discovered and destroyed dozens of underground tunnels in the area, indicating that a 3-meter-high tunnel had been found in the Philadelphi Corridor.

The statement added that at this stage, Israeli forces “continue to study and neutralize the discovered tunnel and other extensive networks of tunnels… and that the army will destroy all underground infrastructure in the Philadelphi Corridor and work resolutely to prevent its reconstruction in the future.”
