Defections shake Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps
A wave of defections is reportedly shaking the ranks of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps amid internal panic and fear of retaliation. Some members are allegedly attempting to flee the country as the war continues, which has been ongoing since late February.
The channel quoted an informed source described as being close to the Revolutionary Guard, who said that “a wave of defections is occurring among the lower ranks of the organization.” According to the source, the phenomenon is primarily concentrated in headquarters and bases located in remote areas outside Tehran.
The source added that “a state of panic prevails among members,” noting that those who have the financial means are attempting to escape the country via land routes.
The source also confirmed that fear of “the day after” is spreading within the Revolutionary Guard. Defectors fear harsh retaliation if the regime manages to remain in power after the current unrest, with the possibility that they and their families still residing in Iran could face persecution.
Iran has neither confirmed nor denied the information mentioned in the Israeli channel’s report.
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched an attack on Iran that, on its first day, reportedly resulted in the death of the country’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders.
