Devastating Floods in Afghanistan Leave 14 Dead
At least 14 people have been killed in the provinces of Farah and Ghor in Afghanistan due to severe flooding that hit the country over the past two days.
According to local officials, the floods have destroyed hundreds of residential homes and thousands of acres of farmland.
Mohammad Israeil Siar, head of the Natural Disasters Management Department in Farah province, western Afghanistan, told “Tolo News” channel, “Eleven people were killed and four others injured in floods in this city.”
He added, “The floods destroyed a total of 580 houses completely and partially over the past two days, and damaged 1990 kilometers of roads.”
Three people were killed and around 700 residential houses were destroyed in the floods that occurred in the districts of Marghab, Tiureh, and Sharsida in Ghor province, western Afghanistan.
Mohammad Amin, a resident of Marghab district, said, “The floodwaters completely destroyed all the houses. We managed to rescue many families with great difficulty.”
The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations announced that nearly a thousand families from Marghab Ghor district have been displaced due to the floods, with most people and farmers in the flooded areas losing their homes, gardens, and fields.
