Egypt continues efforts to save the situation in Libya – Details
The failure of Libya’s political elite to reconcile has further complicated the Libyan crisis, which has witnessed a number of developments, including thousands of demonstrations and the spread of acts of violence over the past few hours; this risks exacerbating the Libyan crisis and returning to square one.
Egyptian efforts
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi stressed that his country has spared no effort in supporting Libya with the aim of achieving national reconciliation and reunification. This came during a phone call received by the Egyptian President, from the head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Menfi, according to the Egyptian National Media Authority.
The Egyptian President stressed the need to “distance itself from any political tensions”, pointing to “the readiness to provide all necessary support in this regard”. In this regard, the head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Menfi, praised the tireless efforts led by President el-Sisi in supporting Libya, especially by contributing to the restoration of national institutions, the unification of the Libyan National Army, as well as the vital role of transferring the Egyptian development experience to Libya to Libya. He added that the communication witnessed consensus on the need to resolve the Libyan crisis from the emphasis on the Libyan people, emphasizing the importance of the conduct of the Libyan elections, with the only way to resolve the situation in order to political settlement.
Lack of vision
Dr. Mohammed al-Zubaidi, a Libyan political analyst, said the situation in Libya is worsening due to the lack of a clear vision about a roadmap for holding presidential and parliamentary elections, which threatens the stability of the state at this time.
The Libyan political analyst pointed to the need to hold a serious dialog in Libya and agree on a common vision in order to make the parliamentary and presidential elections a success in Libya, stressing that there are tangible efforts from many countries, led by Egypt, to make Libyan reconciliation a success. He added that there are foreign parties seeking to destroy Libyan institutions, the failure of Libyan reconciliation steps, and the continuous violence and demonstrations to implement these plans to destroy the Libyan state.
Evil trio
Khaled Mahmoud, a researcher in Libyan affairs, said that the unrest in Libya is the bill for the chaos that started since 2011, as there are armed militias on the ground with the Turkish occupation in western Libya, in addition to a political divide.
He confirmed that Libya pays a heavy price because of internal alliances with external parties such as the Evil Trio Turkey, Qatar and the Muslim Brotherhood, stressing that all countries moving on the Libyan scene are directly involved in the Libyan crisis, pointing to the negative role of the United States towards the crisis, where he described the United States as managing the Libyan crisis without seeking to resolve it on the ground.
