Dr. Ghuneim stated that a complete radical resection of the tongue and neck lymph nodes was performed, followed by the reconstruction of a new tongue using high-precision microsurgery at the University Teaching Hospital. The surgery, which lasted 13 hours, was conducted on a 60-year-old patient suffering from advanced tongue cancer that had spread to the muscles and tissues of the mouth.
In his statement, Ghuneim revealed that the new tongue was reconstructed using a free “flap” from the forearm through precise microsurgery after the patient’s entire tongue was removed and a dissection of the neck lymph nodes was performed.
