Egypt: Three Infants Die in Nursery Fire

Egyptian security forces have arrested a doctor, two nurses, and a restaurant owner, who are suspected of being involved in the death of three newborns following a fire in a private nursery in the “El Balina” district of Sohag governorate.

According to Egyptian local newspapers, preliminary investigations confirmed that the fire started in a restaurant located beneath the nursery, before the flames reached the upper floor where several children were present. The investigations revealed that three infants, only six days old, lost their lives, while civil defense teams managed to rescue four other children who were inside the nursery.

The civil defense forces in the “El Balina” center reported that they managed to control the fire in the nursery, but the smoke resulted in the death of the three infants, who were transferred to the morgue under the supervision of the public prosecutor.

The investigating authorities have decided to assign forensic experts to inspect the fire site, ascertain the causes, circumstances, and estimate the material losses and damages.
