Emirates SkyCargo cooperates with UNICEF to transport Corona vaccines


Emirates SkyCargo has signed an agreement with UNICEF to prioritize the transport of Corona vaccines, essential drugs and medical devices to fight the pandemic.

That is the latest in a series of measures taken by Emirates Airlines freight department to support communities around the world in their efforts to recover from the devastating effects of the «Covid-19 pandemic».

The UNICEF led «Humanitarian Airlift Initiative» brings together a number of partners who have the potential to distribute essential supplies to more than 100 markets to support the «COVAX Facility», which is a global initiative for equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines. This UNICEF initiative also serves as a guide for a collective global partnership in the face of future health and humanitarian crises.

Nabil Sultan, Senior Vice President of Emirates Airlines Cargo, said : ”The faster companies access Covid-19 vaccines, the more successful their efforts to limit the spread of the virus and recover … We are committed to fighting against the early pandemic and launched several initiatives to speed up vaccine distribution across Dubai, all starting with our internationally accredited air hub … Our partnership with UNICEF is another step in setting priorities and facilitating movement rapid and safe Covid-19 vaccines, especially for the most affected communities”.

Emirates SkyCargo, the global leader in the transport of heat-sensitive medicines, including vaccines, has a global network covering 130 destinations on six continents and uses a modern fleet of jumbo jets, in addition to modern infrastructure approved by the European Union for the safe for the transport of medicines and vaccines at its center in Dubai.

In October 2020, Emirates SkyCargo announced the creation of the world’s largest aviation center dedicated to the storage and distribution of “Covid-19” vaccines approved by the European Union, and with more than 15 thousand square meters of storage space. storage available for vaccines, moreover Emirates SkyCargo can store large quantities of ”Covid-19” vaccines in Dubai, and regularly transport the quantities required to markets with limited infrastructure for the shipping cold chain, which reduces the need for large-scale storage solutions.

In January 2021, under the leadership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, Emirates SkyCargo cooperated with three other Dubai-based entities (DP World, International Humanitarian City and Dubai Airports), to launch an initiative to transfer, store and accelerate the distribution of “Covid-19” vaccines around the world, with particular emphasis on developing countries, whose populations have been severely affected by the epidemic and are faced with the challenges of transporting and distributing medical preparations.
