Everest: Hungarian Szilard Suhajda could not be saved!

In the past few days, Everest base camp was boiling over Szilard Suhajda.

This Hungarian mountaineer is missing between the South Pass and the summit. The means used to rescue him have come to nothing. Tragic epilog of an attempt to climb to 8,000m.

Szilard Suhajda, who was attempting to climb Everest without oxygen, was spotted near the Hillary Jump at about 8,780 meters.

A team of sherpas, sent to this extremely dangerous altitude, could not find him.

After several hours of searching there, they had to give up and go down again. To limit the risks taken by the sherpas, the research could not continue.

It should be noted that at this altitude, the chances of finding the Hungarian climber alive after all this time were almost zero.

Indeed, in his recent exchanges with his wife, Szilard is said to have recalled symptoms of altitude illness.

Ground searches completed

The sherpas, including the highly experienced Gelje Sherpa, had been flown by Simone Moro to Camp 2 from where they had reached the search area in record time. They then spent several hours following different landlines.

Those of this season but also those of other seasons that could have guided the mountaineer in other directions

. No trace of Hungarian.

Ground search has ended. But a final reconnaissance flight was to be organized with a last hope of locating the body. A ceremony will be held this Tuesday evening in Budapest in honor of Szilard.
