Explosion in Germany.. No hope for survivors and an airborne aerotoxic substance


Germany declared, Wednesday afternoon, that it lost hope that 5 people were found alive in the chemical plant that witnessed a horrible explosion.

An explosion took place at around 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, local time, for unknown reasons so far at the tank depot of the Borish waste disposal center in the German city of Leverkusen. A fire then broke out at the depot.

Following the explosion, the German authorities announced that 5 employees were missing in the chemical plant in the German city of Leverkusen.

On Wednesday, the head of the plant’s operator, Corinta, Frank Heilmar, announced at a press conference: “We have no hope that we will find the five missing people alive.”

The German Environmental Agency said there was a highly toxic “dioxin” in smoke from the plant since the explosion and fire.

Investigators are due to enter the factory for the first time since the blast on Thursday to begin investigations.

The investigation involves 15 investigators from the Criminal Police Office, while Heilmar promised transparency. He said: “It is too early to make any statements about the cause of the incident.”
