Tunisian trade union leader presents the Brotherhood’s failure and demands a ”road map”

The utter failure of Brotherhood rule in Tunisia spells out a decade of feeble performance centered on serving the organization’s narrow interests at the expense of the people.

Sami al-Tahiri, assistant secretary-general of the country’s largest labor organization, the General Union of Tunisian Workers, believes that successive governments over recent years have been hostage to ruling coalitions that have served their own interests.

Since 2011, Tunisia has been ruled by Brotherhood-dominated governments, leading to near-economic collapse and successive political crises that have brought the country to the brink of collapse.

In statements to state radio, al-Tahiri added that the Labor Union “was previously warned against reaching this stage because of the tense political situation, tensions, protests, hate speech, incitement to violence and disruption of the state.”

Al-Tahiri called on President kais Saied to develop a road map for the aftermath of the exceptional situation so that the tensions do not return again and so that government work is not hindered.

On Monday, Said met with representatives of major Tunisian organizations (customs, workers, lawyers and farmers) to discuss the latest developments following Said’s announcement to freeze the powers of the parliament, lift the immunity of his deputies and relieve Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi from his post.

The Tunisian president refuted the Brotherhood’s terrorist claims of a “coup” in the country, saying “Study the law”.

In a speech on Monday evening, kais Saied that the lies propagated by the Brotherhood’s Ennahda party about the decisions he made were not true, adding that they were in implementation of the constitution and not a coup.

kais Saied: “There are those who turned the revolution into a spoil and proceeded to steal the will of the people, and I call on everyone to remain calm and not be dragged behind provocations and rumors, because I do not want to shed one drop of blood, and the law must be applied to everyone.”
