“FBI”: The world’s largest organized crime operation saved 100 lives
The American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced, Tuesday, the success of a huge global operation against organized crime in the world.
The operation involved law enforcement agencies secretly implanting encrypted phones used by criminals, which allowed 100 people to be saved from “life-threatening threats”.
Assistant Director Calvin Shivers said : “Over the past 18 months, the FBI has provided criminal organizations with more than 300 encrypted devices in more than 100 countries that have allowed them to monitor their communications”.
Speaking to reporters at Europol’s headquarters in The Hague, he added : “Not only have we heard of the number of arrests and seizures, but more than 100 lives have been saved.”
Europol said on Tuesday that police had arrested 800 people in a huge global operation.
The “most sophisticated” global operation to combat organized crime around the world has involved law enforcement agencies covertly implanting encrypted phones used by criminals.
“This information has led over the past week to hundreds of law enforcement operations on a global scale, from New Zealand to Australia to Europe and the USA, with more than 800 arrests, more than 700 sites searched and more than 8 tons of cocaine seized,” Jean-Philippe Lukov, Deputy Director of Operations at Europol, said at a press conference.
