France/Covid-19: Despite the decline in cases, the toll remains heavy

20,924 Covid-19 patients were hospitalized on Tuesday, up from 21,038 the day before. Of these, 1,317 were admitted to critical care services. 119 new deaths were also reported in hospitals.

On Tuesday, the French Parliament finally adopted, by a final vote of the Senate, a health bill that endorses the end of the emergency measures against Covid-19, as of August 1, but provides for the possibility of a mandatory border test.

The bill, which was largely rewritten by the right-wing Senate majority, was voted by 209 votes to 30.
