French Famous Singer Admits Attempted Suicide to Scare Life Partner
French renowned singer Kendji Girac, who was shot on Monday, admitted during his interrogation with investigators that he intended to “simulate suicide” to frighten his life partner, who was threatening to leave him, according to the prosecutor of Aix-en-Provence (southwest France), Olivier Janson, on Thursday.
According to the Agence France-Presse, Janson clarified during a press conference that the singer, winner of the French version of “The Voice” in 2014, “was very scared when he heard her talking about leaving him, panicked for a moment, and wanted to scare her in turn. Somehow, he pretended to commit suicide,” adding that the star “deeply regrets” his actions.
He predicted that “this case would be closed without further action, unless new elements emerge,” while other investigations would continue “to determine the origin of the firearm” used by Kendji Girac.
The 27-year-old singer, of Gypsy origin, initially claimed that the gunshot was “accidental” with a gun he had bought the day before from a store selling cheap used goods. He then changed his statement, claiming that he obtained the pistol on April 18 from a “man” who came to sell “old things” at a gathering of travelers where he was staying in the Biscarrosse area.
The star, transported to a hospital near Bordeaux on Monday, was hit by a bullet near the chest, with the bullet grazing his heart without touching it, described by the prosecutor as a “miracle.”
The judge estimated that “the full recovery of (Kendji) would certainly take several months.”
Tests conducted on the singer revealed a significant amount of alcohol in his blood, exceeding 1.5 grams per liter, as well as the use of cocaine during a party.
Olivier Janson emphasized that “recent alcohol addiction has caused major tensions” between the singer and his partner, noting that other disagreements arose between them regarding their nomadic lifestyle, with his partner, Thérèse Miranda, wanting to stop traveling in order to “not miss any school days” for their daughter.
The prosecutor attributed to Kendji Girac’s partner the statement that the singer “had previously threatened during disputes to shoot himself or cut his throat.”
A new dispute erupted between them on Monday when Kendji Girac returned “drunk” to their trailer and woke up their 3-year-old daughter, according to Thérèse Miranda.
After his partner returned to her room to sleep, she heard a gunshot and found Kendji Girac “kneeling on one knee moaning” with “a gun on the ground.”
