Gargash: Muqtada al-Sadr’s position on the terrorist targeting of the UAE is rational
Anwar Gargash, the diplomatic advisor to the UAE president, said on Saturday that “the position of Muqtada Al-Sadr on the terrorist targeting of the UAE is rational and consistent with the principle of the sanctity of the sovereignty and independence of states”.
On Twitter, Gargash continued: “Differences in political issues are natural, but good neighborliness and non-interference in the internal affairs of states are constants that guarantee the security and stability of the region”.
He concluded: “The logic of the state is built contrary to the destructive logic of the militias”.
Two days ago, Muqtada al-Sadr, the leader of the Sadrist movement in Iraq, denounced the recent attacks that targeted the UAE, stressing his rejection of attempts to drag Iraq into a dangerous regional war.
Al-Sadr, who is holding consultations to form a new majority government, said in a statement issued Thursday: “After the escalating violence in Iraq by armed terrorist groups against the interests of the people and political blocs, some outlaw terrorists rushed to throw Iraq into a dangerous regional war by targeting a Gulf country under the pretext of the Yemen war or the like”, he said.
Al-Sadr said he “categorically rejects throwing Iraq into such conflicts”.
The leader of the Sadrist movement stressed the importance of Iraq not being a launching pad for attacks on neighboring countries and the region, adding: “The government must deal with the perpetrators seriously and decisively, otherwise it will be remiss and its silence may cause its consequences to be irreversible”.
