Hamas serves Iranian objectives in the region while supporting the Houthis

Over the past years, Hamas has supported Houthi militias in Yemen in order to serve Iran’s regional agendas and thus gain Tehran’s approval and financial support.

Perhaps the most prominent thing that showed Hamas’ support for the Houthis was the statements of Mahmoud Al-Zahar, a Hamas leader, about his support for the Houthis in the face of the Gulf. During a meeting with one of the Iranian funded and Arabic-speaking channels, a member of the political bureau of Hamas movement attacked the Arab coalition in Yemen, likening the battles of liberating this Arab country from the Houthis to the Israeli occupation.

The selection of the Hamas leader for the timing of his statements was a stab in the back of the Gulf States, coinciding with a Houthi terrorist attack on a civilian site in the United Arab Emirates, which was condemned by all countries and international organizations. Al-Zahar confirmed that the Muslim Brotherhood movement always chooses to split ranks and line up against the will of the Arab countries.
Despite the movement’s attempt to distance itself from these statements, it was unable to do so, especially in light of the participation of some of its members in demonstrations in the Gaza Strip in support of the Houthis; Pictures of Abdul-Malik al-Houthi and Hassan Nasrallah, the terrorist leader of Hezbollah, have been uploaded, making the matter clear to the Palestinian and Arab public.

Prior to that scene, there was another situation that demonstrated the strength of the relationship between the Houthis and Hamas, when the leader of the Houthi militia, Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, commented at the end of 2012 on Britain’s intention to classify the Islamic resistance movement Hamas as a terrorist organization. He said via Twitter: “We condemn the classification of Hamas as terrorism, although not surprising from Britain, which is the founder of the occupation, (in reference to Israel)”.

Prior to this, Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi offered Saudi Arabia the release of Houthi prisoners in Yemen in exchange for the release of Hamas detainees in Saudi Arabia.
Observers said: The Palestinian Hamas movement’s support for the Houthi-led Houthi militias in Yemen has been open and secret, trying to please Iran, the Houthis’ main backer, with two goals: serving Iran’s agendas and receiving financial support from Tehran.

Observers added: This cooperation expresses the extent of the Brotherhood’s hostility to the Arab Coalition and its support for any terrorism that threatens Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, in an attempt to obstruct any military moves by the Arab Coalition to curb Houthi terrorism, as this directly harms Brotherhood interests.
