Have the Muslim Brotherhood lost their most secure havens? Experts respond
Writer and expert in the affairs of Islamic political movements, Hisham El-Nagar, stated: “The Muslim Brotherhood organization has lost, to a large extent, the support and political and media cover it enjoyed in Turkey, which is considered its strongest and most important regional ally.”
The expert in the affairs of Islamic political movements commented on the arrest of the Kuwaiti Brotherhood leader Hakem Al-Mutairi, stating that the Muslim Brotherhood organization has lost its prominent safe havens, and its continued presence in Ankara has become fraught with danger, while moving to an alternative haven faces many obstacles.
Regarding the timing of the Turkish authorities’ arrest of Al-Mutairi, El-Nagar said: “The current stage regarding Ankara’s relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood‘s arms is different, and the evidence is clear and multiple. What matters to the Turkish government in the first place is correcting the mistakes of previous foreign policy, and establishing relations with influential countries in the region, achieving the required level of Turkish interests through clarity, cooperation, and mutual interests with the countries.”
In the same context, Turkish political expert Dr. Taha Ouda Oglu said in a statement: “The arrest of Al-Mutairi was very noticeable, especially since he had been in Turkey for more than a decade.”
Oglu explained that Turkish policy no longer allows opponents to stay on its territory, indicating that Ankara will not allow its territory to be a platform for attacking any Arab country. According to the political expert, the Turkish authorities’ move against Al-Mutairi is part of its policy to settle many complex issues with Arab countries and strengthen and develop relations with them.
It is worth noting that Ankara has tightened the noose on the Muslim Brotherhood and its elements on its territory in recent months, as part of normalizing relations with Egypt and the countries in the region.
Turkish authorities had earlier launched a campaign of raids against the Brotherhood members residing on its territory, detaining a team of them who do not hold any identity, residence, or nationality, and asking another team of them to leave its territory. This is in addition to freezing a number of transactions to obtain Turkish citizenship for some Brotherhood members.
