Hawaii | Kilauea volcano erupts again

(Honolulu) Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano began erupting inside its summit crater on Thursday, the United States Institute of Geological Studies (USGS) said, less than a month after the volcano and its larger neighbor, Mauna Loa, have stopped spewing lava.

The Hawaii Volcanological Observatory detected a glow in its web camera footage indicating that Kilauea had begun to erupt inside Halemaumau Crater at the top of the volcano’s caldera, the report said. agency.

Kilauea’s summit is inside Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and away from residential communities.

Kilauea is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. It last erupted for 16 months from September 2021.

For about two weeks starting November 27, Hawaii witnessed two volcanoes releasing lava simultaneously when Mauna Loa erupted for the first time in 38 years. The eruption of this and Kilauea stopped at about the same time.

Earlier Thursday, the USGS raised the alert level for Kilauea due to signs that magma was moving below the summit’s surface, evidence that the volcano could erupt.
