Head of Egyptian Intelligence in Tripoli and supplies for al-Dbeibah visit

The head of Libya’s national unity government, Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, met on Thursday with the head of Egyptian intelligence, General Abbas Kamel, in Tripoli.

The meeting, which was attended by Libyan Intelligence Chief General Hussein Al-Aieb, Minister of Interior Khalid Mazen, and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Adel Juma, dealt with means of enhancing mutual relations between the two countries and cooperation in various fields.

In a statement, of which al-Ain News obtained a copy, the National Unity Government’s Information Office said that the head of the Egyptian Intelligence informed Al-Dbeibah of the results of the Egyptian delegation’s visit to Tripoli last May, and of the coordination mechanism for activating all the agreements concluded between the two countries.

Al-Dbeibah praised Egypt’s “positive role in promoting reconciliation between the Libyan parties to enhance security and stability in the region,” the statement said.

During the meeting, the two sides coordinated Al-Dbeibah’s visit to Cairo to activate the Libyan-Egyptian High Joint Committee and finalize what was agreed upon in all fields, according to the statement, which did not give details about Al-Dbeibah’s visit and its date.

“Last month, a high-level Egyptian diplomatic delegation visited Libya as part of steps to reopen the Egyptian embassy in the capital, Tripoli.”

Libyan sources indicated that the delegation that visited the Libyan capital, Tripoli, was headed by Ambassador Mohamed Throut Selim and aimed to achieve a new start in relations between the two countries.

“Last March, the exiled head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed El-Menfi, visited Egypt to meet with President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi and discuss prospects for cooperation and coordination between the two countries.”

At the time, al-Sissi emphasized Egypt’s full support for the new executive branch in Libya, its success in managing the current historical period and the holding of national elections by the end of the year.

Al-Sissi affirmed the steadfastness of his country’s position aimed at achieving the supreme interest of the Libyan state in the first place, restoring security and stability, enjoying a unified national army, ending foreign interference and the exit of all foreign fighters from Libya.
