Heating air threatens dry eyes… 5 ways to avoid danger

The winter season comes with various diseases that threaten human health, and aside from colds, heating appliances affect the eyes, making them susceptible to various damages.

Recently, a German magazine provided guidelines to prevent dry eyes due to exposure to heating air, the most common illness in winter due to exposure to heating appliances.

Among the key tricks recommended by the German magazine to maintain eye health:

  • Drink plenty of water To maintain overall health, it is advisable to consume an adequate amount of fluids. Doctors also recommend it to maintain eye health, preventing dryness of the skin, mucous membranes, and the sensitive eye area.

People should not only drink water on hot summer days but also pay attention on cold winter days. For adults, daily water intake is supposed to be around two liters or a cup of water per hour.

Large-leaved plants To naturally increase humidity in the room, plants are considered the best means. Through constant evaporation, the air is continuously supplied with humidity, releasing up to 90% of absorbed irrigation water back into the room air.

Large-leaved species, such as the Ficus tree, ferns, or Cyprus grass, are particularly suitable.

Water bowl or indoor fountain Placing a bowl filled with water on the heater is recommended. Heat causes the water to evaporate, releasing it into the air. It is important to regularly change the water and clean the bowl well to prevent germs from entering the air. Having an indoor water fountain also helps humidify the air in the room.

Eye drops Doctors recommend using eye drops that contain hyaluronic acid, which retains moisture on the eye surface. Eye drops can be used preventively to counter the additional pressure on the eyes caused by the hot air emitted from heating appliances.

Clean air The hot air emitted from heating appliances leads to dryness of the eye surface and the loss of mucous membranes in the eyes. To prevent this, regular room ventilation is advised.
