Houthi militia face popular discontent by kidnapping – Details
In the face of growing popular anger, especially in light of the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militia’s attempts to sectarianize Yemeni society by force, despite the fact that it does not have a popular support base, the terrorist militia kidnapped a media activist in Ibb governorate in central Yemen, over critical leaflets.
The Houthi militia in the city of Ibb kidnapped activist Abdallah Basalama and took him to the Political Security prison. They explained that the kidnapping was based on his opinions, his media activities on his Facebook page, and his criticism of the militia’s attempts to sectarianize society and bring about sectarian change in the province.
The Houthi militia had intensified its attempts to sectarian the community since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, but those attempts were met with great popular rejection. They forced imams and muezzins in a number of mosques in the city of Ibb in central Yemen to sign the delay of the call to prayer in harmony with Shiite sects, days after the militia kidnapped a number of muezzins and imams in the Al-Qafr district in northern Yemen and threatened imams in the Al Mashannah district with imprisonment to force them to delay the call to prayer in Morocco in Ramadan, in line with Shiite sects.
The Houthi militia’s attempts to marginalize Yemeni society extended to Eid al-Fitr prayers. The group sought to impose Eid al-Fitr prayers on the style of Shia sects imported from Qom and Tehran, but it was widely rejected by worshippers in squares and mosques.
The Houthi militia, through its cultural supervisor Ahmed al-Asri, imposed the Shia modus operandi of the Eid prayer at the official Eid prayer in Ibb.
