Houthi rebels continue to commit crimes against Yemeni people; details
The Houthi terrorist militia continues its violations against women and children in Yemen. A human rights organization, a seminar held on the sidelines of the 51st session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, revealed the violations that women in Yemen are subjected to by Houthi militias supported by Iran.
The report revealed that the Houthi militias arrested 1,781 Yemeni women between December 2017 and September 2022, noting that the arrests of women were carried out outside the law and without any legal procedures, in addition to what women are subjected to in the prisons of Houthi militias, and using them as a pressure card against all those who oppose them.. It pointed to the recent arrest of 74 girls from Hajjah Governorate and their imprisonment in Al-Nasiriyah Central Prison, noting that the death sentences against the women were six death sentences, including a minor.
The report also monitored the crimes of the militias against women, as the Houthi militias continue to practice detention, abduction, torture, and rape of women in areas under their control. The crimes have escalated alarmingly, demanding the release of all women detained in official and secret prisons, and held in police, criminal investigation, political security, and national security departments in Sana’a, Dhamar, Citadel of Rada’a, and Hajja prisons.
Nabil al-Asidi, secretary-general of the Human Rights Association, emphasized the association’s keenness to bring the suffering of the Yemeni people to the world. He explained that Houthi crimes are constantly unfolding, such as the siege of Taiz, the victims of mines, the indiscriminate bombardment of residential neighborhoods, the recruitment of children, the abuse of women, and the violations that have affected civilians, politicians, journalists and human rights activists.
He pointed out that many organizations documented 10,033 incidents of violation committed by the Houthi militia against civilians between January 1, 2019 and March 1, 2022, noting that among the violations were 6,250 abductees and forcibly disappeared, including politicians, activists, media workers, women and children.
On his part, Yemeni political analyst Abdul Hafeez Nahari said that the Houthi terrorist militia is implementing Iran’s plans in Yemen and the region in order to achieve their malicious goals that it seeks. Many organizations revealed in their latest human rights reports that they recorded 20,977 violations committed by the Houthi group against children in Yemen, indicating that the violations ranged from murders, injuries, abductions, displacement, denial of education, in addition to sniping, recruitment and denial of access to treatment, food and water as a result of the siege.
Crimes against women are being used to put pressure on the people of Yemen, the Yemeni political analyst said. He pointed out that the international community, the United Nations and human rights organizations should take strict measures against Houthi, considering that he is committing a war crime and a crime against humanity, and demanded that firm positions be taken to force the militias to implement their obligations under the truce agreement, and that the siege be lifted immediately and unconditionally.
