International efforts to meet the winter needs of Syrians
The World Food Program’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Corinne Fleischer, unveiled plans to redouble efforts to secure the needs of Syrians and save the people from their worst humanitarian crisis, which doubled in winter.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Fayçal al-Meqdad discussed with Fleischer and the accompanying delegation the developments related to food security in the region and the world, and the impact of terrorism and the international multi-faceted crises on the availability of foodstuffs in various regions of the world.
International efforts
According to the London-based Middle East newspaper, SANA said that the meeting discussed several issues related to the World Food Program in Syria, and ways to strengthen efforts in this regard and ensure the delivery of aid without politicization. Al-Meqdad also touched on the challenges facing Syrians as a result of unilateral coercive and inhumane measures in addition to the American practices in northeast Syria. During the meeting, he stressed the need for the United Nations to play its role in stopping violations and exposing Western practices that have cost Syrians more than $100 billion in direct and indirect losses. Fleischer expressed her appreciation for the Syrian government’s continued support for the World Food Program.
