Iran says no letter received from U.S. president Biden
Iranian government spokesman Bahadori Jahromi revealed the fact that a letter from US President Joe Biden had reached his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi.
When asked about information that Raisi received a letter from Biden a few days ago, Jahmi said at the weekly press conference: “No message has come from the president of the United States”.
He added: “Of course they [Americans] are sending messages to Iran, but more important than sending the message is practical action to return to commitments and lift illegal sanctions on the Iranian people”.
He said his country was receiving “messages from Washington through mediators, not directly from US President Joe Biden”.
Regarding the impact of the nuclear negotiations on the IAEA’s decision against Tehran, he noted that “the nuclear negotiations are proceeding independently, and they have not been affected by this”, considering that “the decision of the IAEA Board of Governors harms the Agency’s independence and status”.
The Iranian government spokesman noted that “Tehran declared from the beginning that it had hopes for the east and west of the country, but it will not leave the negotiating table. It has taken good measures to thwart the sanctions and negotiations are continuing to lift the illegal sanctions”.
“Nuclear negotiations with the IAEA are irrelevant to the nuclear agreement negotiations, and both are pursued on separate tracks”, he stressed.
Iran’s disputes with Western powers escalated over Tehran’s refusal to provide the IAEA with explanations on secret nuclear activities.
In a related context, the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI) said, on Tuesday, that “there is no undeclared nuclear material in the country, and the IAEA’s allegations come only on the basis of false information fabricated by Israel”.
“Iran is fully committed to its obligations under the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement and, in the context of further cooperation with the IAEA, has agreed to conclude and fully implemented two joint statements issued on 26 August and 5 March 2022”, the organization said in a statement.
