Iraq’s Sadrist movement hints at a step ‘that does not cross the mind’ of the corrupt

Iraq’s Sadrist movement on Wednesday called for a “sudden and unthinkable step” by those described as corrupt in the country, as the street continued a movement demanding a comprehensive reform of the political system.

“We will take another surprise step that will not come to their mind if the people decide to continue the revolution and undermine the corrupt”, the Sadrist Movement said in a statement.

The announcement of the suspension was unconstitutional, the movement said, calling the move an attempt by the judiciary to remove suspicions about it illegally “especially since the demonstration was peaceful”.

The Sadrist movement stated, “The judiciary will try to uncover some corruption files in order to prevent another sit-in. The fall of the current regime in Iraq “does not please some, especially the American embassy”.

Earlier, the Iraqi Judicial Council announced the resumption of work in all courts starting Wednesday after supporters of Sadr movement leader Muqtada al-Sadr withdrew from a sit-in in front of the Judicial Council building.

The Iraqi Judicial Council said in a statement: ‘In view of the withdrawal of demonstrators and the lifting of the siege on the building of the Supreme Judicial Council and the Federal Supreme Court, it was decided to resume normal work in all courts as of Wednesday morning”.

He added: “On this occasion, the Supreme Judicial Council thanks all local and international bodies and personalities that support the judiciary and are committed to the principle of the rule of law and respect for the constitution. The Council also affirms that legal measures will be taken against anyone who violates the law and disrupts public institutions”.

After that, the Iraqi judiciary decided to suspend its work in the country, before al-Sadr’s supporters announced the dissolution of their sit-in in front of the judiciary building and the sit-in in front of the parliament building.
