Israel cripples Hezbollah’s artillery unit as missile platforms are targeted

A new Israeli strike in southern Lebanon has targeted Hezbollah’s “artillery unit.”

The strike comes as part of Israel’s efforts to cripple the group’s capabilities and prevent any potential missile threat, amid reports of a broad Israeli offensive against Hezbollah.

According to a statement by the Israeli military, its forces carried out raids on “a production site, weapons depots, and missile platforms belonging to Hezbollah’s artillery unit in several areas of southern Lebanon.”

During the strikes, “the Israel Defense Forces targeted weapons depots and a production site for combat equipment used by Hezbollah to rebuild its capabilities and replenish its arsenal.”

“Launch sites and missile platforms, along with additional military buildings used by Hezbollah to advance terrorist plans against Israel,” were also targeted.

The struck sites, together with attempts to rebuild Hezbollah’s capabilities at these locations, constitute “a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon and a threat to the State of Israel,” the statement said.

Lebanon is facing increasing pressure from the United States and Israel to disarm Hezbollah under a ceasefire agreement. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that Israel “will take the necessary measures” if Beirut fails to rein in the group’s arsenal.

Despite the ceasefire agreement reached between Lebanon and Israel in November 2024, Tel Aviv continues to carry out regular strikes that it says target Hezbollah’s infrastructure, accusing the group of rearming.

Since the agreement came into force, more than 340 people have been killed in Israeli strikes in Lebanon, according to a toll compiled by Agence France-Presse based on data from the Ministry of Health.

The ceasefire agreement stipulates an end to hostilities, the withdrawal of Hezbollah north of the Litani River in southern Lebanon, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from positions they advanced to during the most recent war.

However, Israel continues to maintain five strategic positions inside Lebanese territory.
