Israel’s President travels to Turkey: Our relationships are important

Before leaving for Turkey, Israeli President Isaac Herzog emphasized the importance of Tel Aviv-Ankara relations.

Herzog left for Turkey on Wednesday for a two-day official visit at the invitation of his counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“Relations between Israel and Turkey are important for both sides and for the entire region, especially when the world order is undermined”, Herzog told reporters.

He added: “There have been ups and downs in relationships.. We will not agree on everything, but we will try to prepare and build relations carefully and will be examined with actions and mutual respect”.

The Israeli presidency has already revealed the program of Herzog’s visit to Turkey.

“At the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President Isaac Herzog and First Lady Michel Herzog will start today a visit to the Republic of Turkey”, said a statement from the Israeli President’s Office, of which Al Ain received a copy.

“During the visit from Wednesday to Thursday, President Isaac Herzog will meet President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara and representatives of the Istanbul Jewish community”, the statement said.

He continued: “When President Herzog took office, President Erdogan called to congratulate him on his election in a conversation that led to the resumption of dialog between Israel and Turkey after a hiatus of several years”.

According to the statement, the two leaders will discuss various bilateral issues, including Israeli-Turkish relations and the possibility of expanding cooperation between the two countries and peoples in various fields.
