Judiciary investigates ”Ennahdha”, ”Heart of Tunisia” receiving funds from abroad
The Tunisian judiciary has launched an investigation into three parties, including the Muslim Brotherhood’s Ennahdha and Heart of Tunisia, for receiving funds from abroad during the recent election campaign.
Reuters reported that a judicial source said that the judiciary has opened an investigation on three political parties, including Ennahdha and Heart of Tunisia, on suspicion of receiving funds from abroad during the electoral campaign in 2019.
Muhsin al-Dali, spokesperson for the Economic and Financial Judiciary Department, said the three parties are: Ennahda, Qalb Tounes, 3ich Tounsi, and the prosecution decided to open an investigation against each of them, regarding access to illegal foreign funds.
Al-Dali said in media statements that one of the files under investigation is contracts for lobbying groups, which were recently referred to the public prosecution in the economic and financial judiciary.
Tunisian President Kais Saied is working to open financial corruption cases related to political parties, which have been involved in numerous violations.
Last Sunday, the Tunisian President announced a freeze on the work of the parliament, lifting the immunity of members of parliament, relieving the President of the Tunisian government, Hichem Mechichi, and compensating him with another personality.
