Knife Attacks Strike Again in Australia
A new knife attack in Australia, this time carried out by a young man (16 years old) accused of extremism, as announced by the police.
The 16-year-old was killed by Australian police after injuring a person in a knife attack in the west of the country, according to the state’s premier and police chief.
Western Australia Premier Roger Cook told the press on Sunday morning that the teenager armed with a knife “lunged” at the police.
He noted that an officer shot him, killing him, adding that according to preliminary information, the young man turned to extremism online.
A Strange Coincidence
Australia witnessed a similar incident last month when Mar Mari Emmanuel, the bishop of the Ancient Church of the East, was stabbed. Interestingly, the attacker was also 16 years old, and this occurred during the sermon at the Assyrian Church of the Good Shepherd in a suburb of Sydney.
Footage at the time showed the attacker approaching the altar in the church, then raising his right arm and stabbing the priest with a knife, causing panic among the worshippers who began screaming.
In Australia, a law dating back to 2002 defines terrorism as an act that causes harm to a person, with political, religious, or ideological motives, aimed at intimidating the public.
Two days before the Assyrian Church incident, a knife attack occurred in a shopping center in eastern Sydney, resulting in the deaths of 6 people.
