Libya .. A unity government or a domination?
One hundred days after the birth of Libya’s “national unity” government, frustration has descended on the Libyan street.
After the weak performance, procrastination and disregard described by the Prime Minister in dealing with the Libyan East, especially ignoring his visit to the entire Libyan territory and a large and important part as Cyrenaica, which caused a clear complaint in the Libyan street that loves national unity.
Today’s Libyans are mostly confused in describing the government as “national unity,” while its actions are being described as a government of conquest, extension, and support to one side over another. The government ignored communication with the Libyan army leadership for the first 100 days, except for the orphan visit of the president of the Presidential Council for the East and the meeting of the army leadership, which some described as a visit to the community forest without any trace.
The “national unity” government should have been an extension of two governments that shared legitimacy and authority on the ground – the interim government in the east and the government of “national accord” in the west. The Geneva Accord, the Tunis Understandings and the dialog committee that produced the “national unity” government provided for power-sharing and the legacy of the two governments in power, but the actions and statements of the head of government were described as provocative, especially as he said in a meeting with radical groups fleeing from the east : “The city of Benghazi will return to embrace the homeland,” he said, although he later retracted a statement that he had misrepresented the expression and that the country would return to Benghazi.
Statements should not be improvised, but should be calculated with extreme precision, to avoid sensitivities and to prevent sedition.
The Libyan street was a good optimist in forming a “national unity” government, but the government’s one-sided and one-sided use of force and total disregard for the other caused a state of disdain and shocking caution.
After years of war, fighting and displacement, Libya is in real need of comprehensive national reconciliation. It is one of the priorities of the tasks of the “national unity” government, and it has not achieved any progress, even a single inch. The “national unity” government is also responsible for the return of displaced persons and displaced persons from both sides. The “national unity” government has not taken any steps in this regard, not to mention the control of militias, mercenaries and foreign forces. This file is where the government has not made any progress, with the exception of the courageous statements of the Foreign Minister calling for the exit of mercenaries and foreign forces, which has caused it a long-standing threat to its personal safety by mercenary agents and foreign forces.
The unification of institutions, led by the Libyan Army, the file on which the government of “national unity” has failed even to communicate with the leadership of the Libyan army in Benghazi, as if it were an institution outside the government’s agenda even in the general budget item of the state, which prompted the Libyan parliament to revise the general budget proposal in order to not approve the budget item of the Libyan army in it, which confirms that the so-called government of “national unity” should be reconsidered.
The government’s fallacy in acting like a dominant government and a “victorious winner” government when the military reality is not, makes the situation more complicated in the Libyan political and military scene with the persistence of hate speech, discord, lies and misinformation, confirming that there are foreign parties with local agents who do not want the best for Libyans, and are seeking to perpetuate the conflict and return guns and guns to powder.
The Libyans are tired of war, fighting and division, and they don’t care about naming the government without translating these names into reality.
“If a new conflict breaks out, and if it continues as it is, the only loser is Libya and the simple Libyans”.
