Libya.. the Muslim Brotherhood is trying to derail the prospect of the next election

Since the early days of the preparations for the Libyan elections, the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood has been working on attempts to thwart the upcoming election and aggravate the situation among the parties that entered into a permanent peace process in order to achieve their absurd goals in the region and for their affiliates to take over the scene.

The most recent attempt by the Brotherhood to ignite the situation in Libya was the issuance of rulings by a military court against a number of Libyan army leaders, including the commander of the Libyan Army, presidential candidate Khalifa Haftar, Chief of Staff of the Army Abdul Razzaq al-Nadhuri, and leaders of the Air Force and the armed forces, as well as their attempts to constantly pressure the opposition to the candidacy of Saif al-Islam Mouammar Kadhafi.

The terrorist group spread chaos in Libya at the hands of Muslim Brotherhood militias in protest against the nomination of Saif al-Islam al-Kadhafi, son of the late Libyan leader Mouammar Kadhafi.

“Roads were blocked and several UNHCR offices in cities in western Libya were deliberately closed”.

Exclusion of Saif al-Islam

The Libyan High Electoral Commission decided on Wednesday to exclude Saif al-Islam Kadhafi, son of late Colonel Muammar Kadhafi, from the list of presidential candidates, for “violating two articles of the law on the election of the head of state”.

Saif al-Islam is the most prominent name on the list of excluded candidates, which includes 25 candidates, including Bashir al-Charqawi, Nouri Bousahmein, Mohammed Al-Sharif and Adel Laafi

Article 10, paragraph 7, of the Law on the Election of the Head of State provides that “He shall not be convicted definitively for a crime or a crime against honor or integrity”.

Article 17, paragraph 5, requires applicants to submit a “certificate of absence of precedents”.

Saif al-Islam Kadhafi is wanted by the International Criminal Court for “crimes against humanity”.

A Tripoli court sentenced him to death in absentia in 2015 for war crimes during the 2011 protests.

However, the commission did not completely shut the door on the excluded, saying that it would “open the door for appeals”, indicating that the final decision will be in the hands of the Libyan judiciary. It is worth mentioning that the presidential elections are expected to be held on the 24th of next December, and it is expected to receive a lot of local and international attention.

Saif al-Islam replies

Saif al-Islam Kadhafi responded to the decision of his exclusion from running in the presidential elections in Libya, and issued a statement on Thursday in which he called on Libyans to continue receiving their electoral cards, saying: “We must all continue the process of receiving election cards.. And very strongly”.

Muslim Brotherhood Attempts

The Brotherhood’s attempts to continue with Haftar and with Kadhafi were considered by many media reports as malicious, and that the Brotherhood was ready to do anything to thwart the elections, and to take the same futile mentality in order to thwart the democratic process in Libya. In particular, the Brotherhood failed to disrupt the elections by invoking disagreement over laws and then blockading and closing the polling centers, and resorted to malicious judgments and complaints.
