Missing for a Decade… Japanese Man Discovers His Mother’s Body at Home
Cleaners hired to tidy up a Japanese man’s house were shocked to find human remains in the residence, which were later identified as the “mother” of the homeowner, who had been missing for a decade.
According to the South China Morning Post, the man had lived in the house with his parents and older sister. None of the family members took care of the house’s upkeep, resulting in garbage piling up throughout the home, which eventually prompted the man to hire cleaners.
The man’s sister had left the home to work in a distant location, and his father passed away years after losing contact with their mother. Left alone, the man was preparing for a new job and decided to hire cleaners for a one-day cleanup of the house. However, just three hours into the work, the cleaners made a shocking discovery.

As they lifted old blankets and mattresses, they came across something that resembled human bones.
Initially unsure, they soon realized it was indeed a skeleton. They informed the homeowner, who suspected the bones might belong to his missing mother, and notified the police, who confirmed his suspicions.
The man speculated that his mother might have quietly passed away in her room, as she often left the house for days without notice and rarely interacted with anyone.

He added that “there were no distinctive odors because the house was already filled with foul-smelling garbage, and the family had become accustomed to the stench.”
The cause of the woman’s death has not been disclosed, and it remains unclear what legal consequences the man might face.
