Morocco Reaffirms Its Steadfast Support for Palestinian Rights
The Moroccan king presents a list of demands to safeguard the rights of the Palestinian people amid difficult circumstances that are unacceptable on human, legal, and ethical grounds.
King Mohammed VI reiterated Morocco’s firm position on the justice and centrality of the Palestinian cause, describing it as the key to peace, security, and stability in the Middle East. This aligns with the internationally recognized two-state solution, where Gaza is an integral part of the independent Palestinian territories. This message was addressed to Cheikh Niang, Chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
Morocco’s consistent and committed stance on the Palestinian issue is emphasized on every occasion, ranking among the top priorities of its diplomacy and foreign policy. This steadfast position prevents any form of political maneuvering and underscores Morocco’s sincerity and consistency on this matter.
In his message, King Mohammed VI reaffirmed Rabat’s full solidarity and unconditional support for the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent state within the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The message highlighted the tragic conditions in Palestinian territories, especially Gaza, calling for urgent intervention to achieve an immediate and lasting ceasefire, alongside collective efforts to support and protect human rights in the Palestinian territories, in line with UN resolutions and international law.
Morocco is notably one of the most active Arab and Muslim countries in organizing popular demonstrations in support of Palestinians since the beginning of the Israeli war on Gaza. Through near-daily marches in several Moroccan cities, including the capital Rabat, Moroccans express solidarity and call for an end to the war, lifting the blockade, and allowing humanitarian aid to enter.
The king’s message voiced deep concern over the grave developments in Gaza since October 7, 2023, denouncing massive human losses and the suffering inflicted on Palestinian civilians. He outlined a series of demands, including:
- Immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza and an end to repeated assaults on civilians in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
- Protection of civilians and prevention of attacks against them.
- Unconditional and permanent opening of crossings to ensure the smooth entry of humanitarian and medical aid.
- Support for UNRWA’s role in protecting Palestinian refugees.
- Rejection of any forced displacement of Palestinians and full adherence to international law.
- Resumption of serious negotiations to revive the peace process.
The message also highlighted the crucial role of the Jerusalem Committee, chaired by King Mohammed VI, in preserving the city’s historical and legal identity.
Morocco has repeatedly sent humanitarian aid to Gaza, including essential medical supplies, in response to the dire humanitarian crisis.
The king concluded by stating that Morocco’s efforts for the Palestinian cause represent a sincere and enduring commitment, highly praised by Palestinian leaders and people alike.
