Morocco’s Position on Supporting Palestinian Rights Consistent Away From Bids

Morocco’s King Mohammed VI affirmed Morocco’s commitment to the Palestinian cause, saying that this is “a sincere and sustained commitment supported by concrete actions on the ground, which receive full appreciation and praise from the Palestinian leadership and people.”

In a message to Sheikh Niang, chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, on Tuesday, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, the King reiterated Morocco’s firm and clear position on the just cause of Palestine and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost of which is the right to establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, living in peace and security alongside the State of Israel.

He added that while emergency international crises are now the priority attention of the international community and its institutions, the Palestinian issue will remain, as the oldest issue, the key to peace and stability in the Middle East region. Therefore, the security and stability of the region require continued efforts and efforts to move beyond the logic of conflict and violence to the logic of peace and cooperation and to build a prosperous space for all its peoples.

He stressed the need to find a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue through negotiations based on international legitimacy, calling for overcoming the political impasse.

“As much as we affirm that the deadlock in the political process between the Palestinian and Israeli sides does not serve the peace that we are looking for to prevail in the region, we encourage the positive signs and the commendable initiatives aimed at rebuilding confidence with a view to launching serious negotiations capable of achieving a just, comprehensive and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue, in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy, and on the basis of a two-state solution as a realistic option, ” he said.

He stressed that the survival of the conflict depends on the future of future generations, saying “We are sure that initiatives aimed at spreading prosperity in the region, despite their importance, will remain insufficient in light of a long-standing conflict that has become a wager on the future of future generations.”

The absence of a political horizon for the Palestinian cause, and the unilateral measures that undermine the chances of peace, have allowed extremist forces to entrench their sanctity and spread the culture of violence and hatred, which threatens to turn the conflict from a political conflict to a ideological conflict that may have serious consequences for the entire region.”

The Moroccan monarch, who chairs the Al Quds committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), highlighted the symbolism and importance of the city of Al Quds, calling for “preserving the legal, civilizational and religious status of the holy city as the common heritage of humanity, the land of meeting and a symbol of peaceful coexistence for the followers of the three monotheistic religions.”

On the achievements made for the benefit of Al-Maqdisi under his supervision, he said, “The Bayt Mal Al Quds Acharif Agency is carrying out and executing concrete projects, housing, health, education and social for the benefit of our Al-Maqdisi brothers. The projects are aimed primarily at preserving the civilized identity of the Holy City, improving the social and living conditions of the Jerusalemites, and supporting its steadfastness.”

The King of Morocco said that the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is an opportunity to call on all Palestinian parties to work in a spirit of teamwork to build strong Palestinian institutions under the leadership of Mahmoud Abbas, president of the State of Palestine, to achieve the aspirations of the brotherly Palestinian people for freedom, independence and a decent life.

The Moroccan authorities have always stood by the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, despite attempts by some parties to criticize Morocco’s policies in this matter under false pretexts.

There is no doubt that official authorities in Algeria stress the issue of normalization and the peace agreement signed by the Moroccan government with the Israeli side in 2020 to challenge Morocco’s firm positions in support of the rights of the Palestinians to establish an independent state.

Observers believe that skepticism and criticism are linked mainly to Morocco’s diplomatic successes in the Moroccan Sahara issue, and not under the pretext of supporting the positions of the Palestinians. Hence, the message of the King of Morocco was decisive in rejecting all futile and narrow-minded claims that do not serve the rights of the Palestinian people in the end.

Many countries have long used the Palestinian cause to settle political scores, something that has negatively affected their fairness. Algeria joined the list of these countries with the aim of tarnishing the image of Morocco and its role in supporting the rights of the Palestinians.
