Morocco unveils 2021 crime rates

The General Directorate of National Security revealed on Monday the crime rate and the rate of arrests of perpetrators during 2021, according to the Moroccan News Agency.

According to the crime statistics mentioned in the report, the national security services dealt with 1 153 741 cases this year, which resulted in the seizure and submission of cases before various public prosecutors.

The percentage of indicators of violent crime continues to decline annually, and did not exceed 4% this year. According to al-Hurra website, 45,829 cases of this type were recorded and processed.

The country has registered 82,950 cases related to possession and illegal drug trafficking; the increase in the quantity seized from cocaine was noted, as it amounted to 433 kilograms, up from 132 kilograms last year.

In the case of cross-border crimes, the security elements were able to arrest 38 persons suspected of involvement in terrorism cases and dismantle 150 criminal networks active in organizing illegal migration.

The indicators of cyber fraud crimes fell by 5% compared to the last year, and recorded an increase in sexual blackmail crimes through the internet by 12%, with 498 cases registered.

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, the Directorate has followed up on all types of forgery and manipulation of health documents and evidence, and recorded 203 cases of this type.

The efforts of the Directorate resulted in the arrest of 390 persons, the seizure of 542 forged PCRs and 33 fake vaccine passes.
