New attack near the Bushehr nuclear site in Iran: one security officer killed

A new U.S.–Israeli strike targeted the surroundings of the Bushehr nuclear power plant in southwestern Iran, resulting in one fatality, according to local media.

On Saturday, the official IRNA reported that “following the American and Israeli attacks, a projectile fell at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday in an area close to the Bushehr nuclear power plant.”

The agency stated that the incident led to the death of a member of the protection forces, while confirming that the facilities sustained no damage.

Earlier in the day, Iranian media reported that U.S.–Israeli strikes targeted a petrochemical complex in southwestern Iran, affecting several companies and injuring five people.

The Fars News Agency quoted the deputy governor of Khuzestan, Valiollah Hayati, as saying: “Explosions occurred in the special petrochemical zone of Mahshahr.”

He added that the “U.S.–Israeli attack” hit three companies in the area. Meanwhile, the Tasnim News Agency reported, citing the same source, that “the extent of the damage has not yet been determined,” while Valiollah Hayati confirmed that five people were injured in the strikes.

The attack caused a power outage across all petrochemical complexes in Mahshahr.

On March 28, the International Atomic Energy Agency announced that Iran had reported a new attack on the Bushehr nuclear facility, the third within ten days.

Previously, the Bushehr plant, the only operational nuclear power plant in Iran, had been targeted by two attacks on March 17 and 24, with no damage reported.

The Bushehr plant has a production capacity of 1,000 megawatts.
