New details on the attack on “Waqf al-Eid” in Iraq


Iraqi authorities revealed, Tuesday, new details related to the suicide bombing in Al-Sadr City in eastern Baghdad.

According to the Security Media Cell, the death toll rose to 30 dead and more than 50 injured, according to official figures.

But unofficial Iraqi data confirmed the death toll had risen to 35 and 60 injured.

Security sources confirmed that the explosion was caused by a suicide terrorist wearing an explosives vest.

Intelligence agencies have begun collecting accurate information to follow up on the criminal terrorist elements who carried out the terrorist act to bring them to justice to receive their punishment.

A sad atmosphere prevailed in Iraqi cities on the first day of Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) on Tuesday, after a bloody day in Baghdad when the Al-Sadr Market was bombed.

Under tight security, thousands of Iraqis led Eid al-Adha prayers before leaving for their homes amid freezing temperatures.

Al-Sadr City, an eastern suburb of Baghdad, experienced a very sad atmosphere after an ISIS attack on the Al-Wahilat market, which killed and injured dozens.

In a statement, the ISIS terrorist organization claimed responsibility for the attack, saying the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber named Abu Hamza al-Iraqi who blew himself up amid Shia crowds in Sadr City.

According to the latest unofficial statistics cited by Iraqi sources to Al Ain News, about 34 people were killed in the explosion, including 5 children and 13 women, in addition to more than 60 people injured.

Iraqi Prime Minister Moustafa al-Kazimi vowed to hold accountable any commander or officer found negligent in the Sadr bombing.
