The aspirations of the Libyan Prime Minister to establish a comprehensive partnership with Egypt


Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi spoke with the new Libyan Prime Minister, Abdel Hamid al-Dabaiba, about the prospects for cooperation and coordination between the two countries.

The meeting, which is the first in Cairo since Dabaiba’s appointment to his post, brought together Mostafa Madbouly, Egyptian prime minister, and Abbas Kamel, head of general intelligence, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency.

The Libyan Prime Minister expressed the pride of his country for the sincere and effective efforts of Egypt in various fields to resolve the Libyan crisis during the last period.

He explained that the Egyptian efforts “resulted in the convergence of views among the Libyans and the end of the state of division, as well as the support of Egypt to the Libyan institutions in the fight against terrorism and the extremists groups”.

Dabaiba affirmed that the Libyan government and people look forward to establishing a comprehensive partnership with Egypt with the aim of replicating successful examples of their inspiring development experience gained over the past years under the leadership and vision of the President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, in particular with regard to the restoration of security and stability and the launching of the development and reform process.For his part, Al-Sisi welcomed the visit of the Libyan Prime Minister to his second country, Egypt, once again congratulating the new Libyan leadership for having obtained the confidence of the members of the Political Dialogue Forum, representatives of the Libyan people.

The Egyptian president underlined Egypt’s willingness to continue supporting the Libyan people to complete their country’s management mechanisms, and to lay the foundations for peace and stability to preserve their capacities and activate their will.

He explained that the current phase requires Libya to mobilize all the efforts and arms of its sincere sons and men in order to prioritize action in various fields, starting with the restoration of security, through the stabilization of the pillars of the state, then ending with the launch of service and development projects that have a direct impact on the brotherly Libyan people.

He affirmed Egypt’s full readiness to bring all their expertise and experience to the service of the Libyan brethren, in a way that helps put Libya on the right track and prepare the country to embark on prospects for construction, development and stability.

The meeting witnessed a review of Libyan efforts over the coming period to lead the transition phase and prospects of cooperation and coordination between the two brotherly countries to support the Libyan side in the historic responsibility of this period.

It was agreed to exchange visits at the level of executive officials to transfer expertise and experience to the Libyan side, and to consult on all sectors in which cooperation will take place, especially at the level of services and restoring security, as well as economic cooperation, as well as the training of Libyan cadres in various fields.

On February 5, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya announced the victory of the “Muhammad Al-Exiled” list headed by the country’s interim executive authority, which includes Dabaiba as prime minister.
