A new episode of the ongoing nighttime drone attacks between Russia and Ukraine unfolded overnight on Saturday-Sunday.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Sunday that its air defense systems had destroyed 17 drones launched by Ukraine targeting Russian areas, while the governor of the Kaluga region stated that the attack targeted an oil depot there.

The ministry, in a statement via Telegram, reported that three of the drones launched by Ukraine were shot down over the Kaluga region south of Moscow.

Vladislav Shapsha, the governor of Kaluga, stated that the drones fell near an oil depot near the town of Lyudinovo.

He added in a statement via Telegram that the attack did not result in casualties or damage.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, 9 drones launched by Ukraine were destroyed over the Bryansk region, with 3 destroyed over the Kursk region, and two over the Belgorod region.

On the other side, the governor of the Mykolaiv region in Ukraine reported that a Russian drone attack caused serious damage to a hotel in the city of Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine, with the Russian media agency mentioning that the hotel hosted “English-speaking mercenaries fighting in Ukraine.”

Vitali Kim, governor of Mykolaiv, stated via the Telegram app that the attack was carried out by an Iranian drone of the “Shahed-131/136” type.

He added, “As a result, a building in the hotel suffered severe damage, and a fire broke out quickly… without any casualties or injuries.”

Kim said that the Russian attack also resulted in broken windows in a nearby hotel, and that the heating infrastructure was damaged.

The Ukrainian Air Force also announced on Sunday via its Telegram account that its forces destroyed a Russian drone over Mykolaiv, without providing further details.

It also stated that it had destroyed four other drones launched by Russia over the area surrounding the capital, Kyiv, as well as in the Vinnytsia and Kirovohrad regions in central Ukraine, and over the Khmelnytskyi region in the west.
